Before getting married in Kentucky, you must apply for a marriage license at
any county clerks office. The fee for obtaining a marriage license is $50. To qualify to be issued a marriage license in Louisville, Kentucky, both applicants must be single, and at least 18 years of age. Applicants 16 and 17 years old must have parental consent and the license must be issued in the county of residence of the underage applicant. The applicants must appear together in-person with valid photo ID, a driver’s license or a passport. The license is valid for 30 days from the date of issuance, meaning the parties must have the marriage ceremony within 30 days or another marriage license would need to be obtained.

When you call for the ceremony, the following requirements should be considered:
1. Marriage license


2. Presence of Bride and Groom


3. Bride’s Guardian (Wali). A wali is the brides lawful guardian who is responsible for the
brides life prior to marriage. A wali can be a father, grandfather, a son, brother, uncle


4. Two adult witnesses

 

5. Dowry (can be monetary, gold, silver or other valuables).
